Houston Choral Festival
July 14-19, 1996

The Houston Choral Festival is a resident choral camp established for outstanding high school singers to develop and strengthen their vocal and musical skills in a concentrated, stimulating musical environment. This six day residency program, to be held Sunday, July 14 to Friday, July 19, is sponsored by the Universtiy of Houston Moores School of Music and the Houston Masterworks Chorus. The Festival is limited to 125 singers in grades 9-12 who have been highly recommended by their school or church choirs.

Participants in the Houston Choral Festival will study, rehearse and perform under the direction of two of the most distinguished choral conductors, Robert Brewer and Charles S. Hausmann. Sectional rehearsels will be led by outstanding highschool directors from across the state.

Festival participants will live on the University of Houston campus with a schedule of music activities throughout the day and evening. Students will have access to well-equipped midi computer labs and practice rooms. Vocal coaching sessions and private voice lessons will be available for interested students.

2:45 Sight-singing (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced)

5:00 Dinner
7:00 Full rehearsal with Dr. Hausmann
8:30 Evening activity (talent show, dance, Astros game, swim party)

The festival culminates on Friday evening, July 19, with a public performance featuring selections from the 1996 Texas all-State repertoire plus Schubert's Mass in G. Soloists for the Schubert Mass in G will be selected at the May scolarship audtions in order to provide ample time for preparation.
