LOVE, DEATH, & DRINKING WITH THE SYMPHONY CHORUS!
(a revised choral
In response to suggestions from Chorus members, the Symphony subscription office has put together a new & improved “Choral 4 Pack” subscription series. This now includes Carmina Burana, along with the Britten War Requiem, the Kaddish Symphony program, and Mozart’s Requiem. These subscriptions are a good deal for choral music fans: they represent a 35% savings over single ticket prices. It’s up to US to publicize this special offer. In doing so we help the Symphony, we help friends who like choral music, and we help ourselves (this is a rare fundraising activity for the Chorus.) New flyers are available on the Chorus Table. Susan can also e-mail you a version if you’d like to send it to friends this way.
Stay Healthy: Get a Flu Shot in October
Chorus member Dr. Barbara Bush will once again be offering flu shots for chorus members at our October rehearsals. She’ll do this before rehearsal and during the breaks. The cost is $15 (cash, or check made payable to Barbara Bush). Thanks, Barbara!
Christmas CDs available tonight!!
If you sang on the May CD recording, or if you prepared the CD up to the final rehearsal in March for the cancelled recording session, you may pick up a complimentary CD tonight from your section leaders. (If you’ve changed sections since last spring, please check with the leader of the section you were singing with last spring.) Everyone may purchase CDs for $10 apiece at our rehearsals on Nov. 4 and Dec. 2. Your friends and family can buy the CD for $17.95 at Amazon.com, Cactus Records on Shepherd, and the Barnes & Noble at Westheimer and Voss. Please let your section leader know if you picked yours up already on Sunday night: some CDs went missing….
Chorus ties will be available next week and Oct. 28. Ties cost $25 apiece. See Patsy Wilson, our wardrobe manager. Men wear the ties with dark suits for most of our Sunday afternoon concerts. You will need a Chorus tie for the Britten War Requiem performances.
Thanks!! to Lee Williams, Sally Evans, Richard Field, Joyce Lewis and Suzanne Mitchell who volunteered on behalf of the Chorus during KUHF’s pledge drive very early Monday morning – and to Linda Renner, Vickie Davis, Beverly Davis and Denise Holmes who will be volunteering on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. TWO VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR THURSDAY NIGHT FROM 6-8 p.m.. This is the last night of the campaign, and is an exciting time to volunteer. Please contact Suzanne Mitchell ASAP if you are able to help with this (smitchell1979 @ alumni.unc.org). It’s great publicity for the Chorus, and a good opportunity to thank the folks at KUHF who broadcast our Symphony concerts!
Look! Listen! See Scott Play!
There are two great opportunities this week to hear Scott Holshouser in concert accompanying faculty recitals at the Shepherd School of Music: on Weds. with William Van der Meulen (principal horn with the HS) and on Friday with Ben Kamins. Both recitals are at 8 pm in Duncan Recital Hall.
