ENGLAND FUNDRAISING BEGINS
Many chorus members picked up packets last week to begin individual fund-raising. We will be selling Houston Symphony Season Ticket Subscriptions, 20% of which will be donated to the chorus. Packets are still available.
If you have ideas for fund-raising, join us for a Brown Bag Fund-raising Forum on Saturday, September 18, following the Bach rehearsal. We will meet (location TBA) with our brown lunch bags and discuss fund-raising ideas. Add it to your calendar: 12:30-1:30 p.m., on Sat., Sept. 18, and bring your own lunch!
Please, fill out the form on the back of the page for ways you can be a part of our England fund-raising.
DUES ARE DUE!
Dues are due as soon as possible. Make your check out to the Houston Symphony Chorus for $10, and give it to our treasurer, Steve Abercia, or to your section leader. Please, make sure your dues are paid by September 21, or you will have to pay an additional $10 penalty. New Members will also need to pay a onetime music deposit of $15. You can add this to your dues, and write one check for $25.
PURCHASE YOUR TIES
Black (or very dark) suits will be the new uniform for men on Sunday afternoons, with black shoes and socks, and ties you will need to purchase through the chorus. The ties are available tonight for $22. Please see David Fox, Lee Williams, or Bill Cowan.
HOT SHOT SINGING
The Houston Hot Shots soccer team is looking for volunteers to sing The Star Spangled Banner at their soccer games this season. Those that are interested can sing as a soloist or in groups. Performers will get passes that will serve as tickets to the game, and free tickets for family and friends are also available. For more information, see the flyer on the table outside.
Charles has put together a Recommended Recordings List for the 1999-2000 season. If you are about to purchase a CD to prepare for an upcoming concert, consider his suggestions before you buy. The lists are on the table in the hall.
PLEASE, DO NOT HIGHLIGHT
Mark up your scores as much as you like with PENCIL ONLY. If you must highlight, you may do so AFTER purchasing your score for the bargain price of $16.00. (See Tony Sessions, our librarian, for more info.)
A NOTE OF THANKS
Our thanks to Mary Lopushansky, Judy Hill, Kate Gilvary, Ken Hansen, Steve Abercia, and Dave Nussman for their help at New Member Auditions over the summer. Many of our new members will come into the chorus seeing several familiar faces, thanks to these council members. We appreciate your time and energy!
Our memorization of Beethoven's Ninth and Mahler's Third was so successful and exciting, that we might have to do some more! Carmina Burana is a likely candidate for memorization, so see Charles' Recommended Recordings list, and start listening!
PURCHASE YOUR SCORES
See Tony Sessions if you would like to purchase your Bach score for $16.\
