Saturday, September 15 6:15 Concert Call (Warm-up location - on stage) OPENING NIGHT!!

*mandatory rehearsal

A chorus roster is hanging on the wall outside the rehearsal room, awaiting your initials or changes, so that new rosters can be printed as soon as possible. If you didn’t get a chance to look at this last week, please check the information tonight and initial it if correct, or make changes, if necessary. Thanks!

Please pick up your copy of The National Anthem from Tony tonight - we will sing it Opening Night!

As you know, the floods made a huge mess of Jones Hall and the surrounding area. We have no access to any levels under the stage, including the rehearsal room and the musicians lounge. Because of this, the Concert Call for Opening Night has been moved to 6:15 p.m. We will have to warm up on stage, before the orchestra takes it over, and before the hall doors open. We will rehearse from 6:15 - 6:45, have 30 minutes to go up to the chorus level (where we will have only 2 rooms, men and women, clearly marked), remain quietly backstage, or go outside. We will line up at 7:15, as the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

You will also notice a change to the start time for the Saturday Orchestra Rehearsal. Thank you for marking your calendars accordingly.

Another important item is parking. The theater district parking (for Jones Hall, Bayou Place, and Wortham) many of you use is not open yet. A map is available on the table for alternate parking areas. You may want to think about carpooling!

You should also know that we sing in the first half of the concert. At intermission, you may want to go to a restaurant and wait for your guests. You may also wait in the chorus level restroom. OR, we have been given permission to hang out SILENTLY in the lobby during the second half, where there are speakers, and often a television monitor. We will have to be SILENT to take advantage of this option.

This concert is expected to sell out, and standby tickets will be sold to fill any vacant seats. Unless you plan to buy another ticket, going into the hall during the second half will not be an option, nor is remaining backstage!

Next week is I.T.S. time for Polovtsian Dances! Eduardo will be hearing provisional members and those with attendance issues (more than 2 absences) in 7 minute time slots between 8 - 10 p.m., during next Tuesday’s rehearsal. Be prepared to sing any part of the piece. See Cheryl to sign up for a time.

Thanks to David Fox, Bill Goddard, and Mollie Hejl for the wonderful snacks at the break! Please help them make this time more meaningful by generously donating to the kitty, and by signing up with Mollie to bring some goodies for a rehearsal or two. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Many of you signed our list, then were contacted about registering for the Tuesday night Sight Singing Class. If you have not returned the call or email, you need to do so immediately! (You can call 713-743-3398 or 713-743-3303 to register over the phone with a credit card or check.) As of tonight, there will be no class because many interested individuals have not yet officially registered. Classes are supposed to start next Tuesday, so please call tomorrow!

Please pick up a calendar/handbook tonight, if you did not get one last week. Please note that these were printed before the time changes were made to the Opening Night call, and the Sept. 15 orchestra rehearsal, so mark your calendars accordingly.

Sally Hoffecker, A2, has the Kodaly & Brahms CDs that individuals ordered for our March concert. The prices are $13.33 for the Kodaly CD & $18.82 for the Brahms. She has several extras of each, & will be pleased to take orders for more once those run out. See Sally for more information. Thank you, Sally!

Men who are new to the chorus will need to purchase regulation ties prior to the Barber concerts. The price has gone up this year to $25, but it is still a bargain, as the store price is $39!
